“Interoperability of IT projects will be a challenge”
Implementation of the CCTNS programme has just started and a lot will depend on the core application software (CAS), which is being developed by a central agency. When the software comes, it will enable lot of interaction between police and citizens. It will have a lot of citizen-centric services like e-filing of FIRs/petitions, online applications like servant verification etc. The whole cycle of an FIR, from time of filing to charge sheet to submissions in the court will be automated [under the project.
CCTNS is just one programme. Technology will improve organisational efficiency as people and assets will be managed better. Solutions like human resource, inventory and vehicle management need to be adopted. People can be imparted training using technology.
Interoperability of different projects is going to be an issue as different vendors are developing different solutions. Collation of inputs coming in from different agencies is another problem. Analysis of these inputs is important as they will identify certain patterns which will help in better intelligence.
