Enforcement is the biggest challenge

The biggest challenge in ensuring public safety and security is enforcement. Our processes are cumbersome in such a manner that even if one wants to close a court case, she or he cannot. It is an antiquated system.
If the recommendations of committees (on police reform) don’t get implemented, we will continue to talk about this even in 2050. India has one of the worst police-to-citizen ratios. On emergency services, India should learn from the US. The emergency services reach in three minutes there. We can plan something similar here. There is a fair level of advancement happening in use of ICT by government and security agencies. Projects like CCTNS and NATGRID are under implementation. But what is more important is how we bring them together.
