Governance Now along with CA Technologies organized G-Cloud 2012 on May 9, 2012 in New Delhi. The purpose of the conclave was to provide a platform for various stakeholders - government departments, government agencies, IT solution providers, consulting organizations, OEMs and independent experts to discuss issues, challenges, case studies and best practices in the area of cloud computing. J Satyanarayana, secretary, department of electronics and information technology (DeitY) was the chief guest at the conclave and Ravi Saxena, additional chief secretary, department of science and technology, government of Gujarat was the guest of honour. During his inaugural address, Satyanaryana announced that DeitY is working on a framework for adoption of cloud computing by government departments.
During the panel discussion D Krishnan set the ball rolling by saying that the ambitious GST project will be using cloud computing. While CA Technoligies chairman Saurabh Srivastava said institutional frameworks are the key to the success of cloud in government sector, IOC executive director (IS) S Ramasamy shared the PSU’s happy experience with the cloud. PwC executive director Neel Ratan said the benefits of cloud are immense while NIC senior technical director Neeta Verma emphasised on issues of privacy, and suggested private cloud as a first step to begin the G-Cloud journey. The session was moderated by Governance Now, contributing editor R Swaminathan. Ravi Saxena gave the valedictory address and highlighted Gujarat’s achievements with respect to adoption of cloud technology.
